Since 1977 NPO has held an educational conference every year at various locations in Oregon. Between 200-350 NPs attend every year and are able to network with colleagues, meet local specialists, and receive high quality continuing education at a reasonable price close to home. The first conference was held in a Lincoln City at an elementary school. More recently the conference has been held in various resorts such as Sunriver, Hood River, and Salishan.
The NPO conference is organized by a volunteer committee who contacts speakers and staffs the conference. Many hours of volunteer work go into the conference every year and any profits made are used to provide scholarships for NP students and support other worthy causes and activities of NPO.
The NPO annual educational conference has brought nationally known speakers to Oregon and utilized local experts in areas of primary care including women’s health, general family practice, pediatrics, and psych/mental health content.
Membership in ONA/NPO entitles the attendee to a nearly 50% discount in conference registration fees.

Recap of 2009 NPO 32nd Annual Educational Conference
Eugene’s Valley River Inn was the site of the October 2009 annual conference attended by about 220 NPs from Oregon, Washington and a few other states. The three day conference was opened by nationally known speaker Margaret Fitzgerald FNP who presented two plenary sessions and was sponsored at the conference by Evercare. Throughout the next three days over 40 speakers presented on a variety of topics in the areas of women’s health, pediatrics, psych/mental health and general family practice. Over half the speakers at the 2009 conference were Nurse Practitioners and we are proud to support our colleagues as experts in their field.
Every year the all-volunteer conference committee takes the previous year’s evaluations and puts together a conference program packed with over 20 hours of quality continuing education and this past conference was approved by AANP for continuing education credit. There were pharmaceutical company sponsored dinners with special speakers the second night of the conference attended by over 150 NPs. The last night of the conference a hospitality event was sponsored by the NPO and included live music and recognition of the outgoing executive committee.
The annual business meeting of NPO is held every year at the conference and highlights of the past year’s committee activities and legislative victories were recapped for attendees. The first NPO Educational Scholarship recipient was present to be acknowledged for her award.
Exhibits were available for the attendees and included prospective NP employers and pharmaceutical representatives on two days of the conference. Handmade Guatemalan crafts were also available for sale with the proceeds used to provide supplies to students in the home country as a mission endeavor of Marilee Dea, PNP.
The program evaluations once again reflected another successful conference and these valuable comments will be used to guide selection of speakers for the 2010 conference and try to enhance the educational experience of the attendees. In an economically challenging time the local NPO conference provided an opportunity to network and advance knowledge at a very reasonable price.
Join us at Salishan Resort in Gleneden Beach OR (just south of Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast) September 30th to October 3rd for the 33rd Annual Conference. Margaret Fitzgerald FNP will again be a featured plenary speaker to open the conference, courtesy once again of Evercare.
