Getting to Know Our NPO Members

Who are you?

  • Mandy Wilson McKimmy, DNP, FNP-C

Where did you receive your education?

  • I received my BSN in 2000 and my MSN in 2003 from the University of Texas Medical Branch. I received my DNP in 2012 from The University of Alabama. Roll Tide Roll!

What type of NP are you and where and what do you practice?

  • I am a family nurse practitioner and I teach at OHSU in the FNP and DNP programs. I also practice in clinic one day a week at Reed College Health and Counseling Center. I have practiced in family medicine, pediatrics, school-based health, and nursing homes in my career.

How long have you been a member of NPO, what roles have you had?

  • Since moving to Oregon in 2011. I have been the state representative for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners since 2015, and in that role participate with NPO strategic planning and attend the quarterly meetings to provide policy updates. I am also on the Professional Standards Committee and speak at the annual NPO conferences.

What is one thing you’d be willing to share that others may not know?

  • My husband and I have six children and we love doing things outdoors like wakeboarding, hiking, swimming, camping and just being in nature!

Why are you a NPO member? Why should others join NPO?

  • I joined NPO as it is our state organization for NP's, NPO has legislative consultants on staff and is truly the voice of NP's for Oregon. NPO offers wonderful opportunities for continuing education, networking, and staying up to date with state policy relating to NP practice.
