Salem Area Nurse Practitioners Start Provider Corporation
March 24, 2014 - Linda Morley, Jennifer Carley, Aleyna Reed and other psychiatric mental health Nurse Practitioners have established Willamette Independent Psychiatric Associates (WIPA). The corporation provides a management structure for participating NPs to provide mental health services and increase access to care. The impetus for forming this corporation began in 2009 when reimbursement for NPs was reduced by some major health insurance companies. Those cuts also spurred ONA’s priority legislation for NP payment parity passed in the 2013 legislative session.

Linda MorleyAs the legislation worked its way through several sessions, Salem area NPs met with consultants connected through NPO to explore other opportunities to network and collectively provide improved access to mental health services in Marion and Polk Counties.  WIPA plans to administer preferred provider organization contracts that will benefit both patients and provider NPs.

“This has been an intense process and one that I never envisioned when I entered practice," says Morley (pictured here). "Our organization is a way for NPs to further contribute to our communities and respond to needs in a new way.”

NPO congratulates our colleagues in this exciting endeavor.
