CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

41st Annual Nurse Practitioners of Oregon Education Conference

DoubleTree Lloyd Center in Portland, Oregon

October 10-13, 2018

PRESENTER SUBMISSION DEADLINE: March 23, 2018

Nurse Practitioners of Oregon (NPO) is seeking presenters to provide evidence-based educational topics which enhance the practice of nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, and other interested health care providers.

Types of sessions offered throughout the conference (sessions will either be 60 or 75 minutes in length):
  • Plenary Sessions - offered once at the beginning or end of the day. Class sizes are 150- 200 participants.
  • Concurrent Sessions - may be offered once or twice, back to back, or on different days during the conference. Class sizes may be 50-100 participants.
  • Workshop Sessions - most are offered once throughout the conference, with a few that may repeat. These sessions should be skills oriented. Limited class sizes of 15-30.

Poster Presentations

This year we will feature one of our sessions as a poster presentation session, allowing for multiple presenters to share their poster presentation and talk for 5-10 minutes on their project and results. This is a fantastic opportunity for people to share their work and for attendees to learn about many different topics in one session.

Topics of Interest

This year, the conference will center around the theme of "Self Care."

Topics should focus on self care of ourselves as care providers and in helping our patients implement preventive health habits to take better care of themselves.

Possible topics of interest for potential presenters include:

  • radiology ordering and evaluation

  • women's health (including medical abortions)
  • hormone therapy
  • thyroid disorders
  • optimizing preventive health in practice
  • healthy lifestyle
  • dermatology
  • pulmonary care
  • cardiovascular care
  • renal disease
  • diabetes
  • orthopedics
  • rheumatology
  • basic physical therapy for common ailments
  • gastroenterology disorders
  • antibiotic update
  • mental health
  • gender health care

Evidence-Based Content

The content presented should be based on the most current evidence (references should be within past 5-7 years), which may include but is not limited to evidence-based practice, literature/peer-reviewed journals, clinical guidelines, best practices, and content experts’ opinion.

Honorarium and Payment Information

Per presentation, NPO offers presenters a choice between an honorarium or one FREE conference registration (a value of up to $795). The honorarium rate is $350 per session. Sessions with more than one presenter must divide the honorarium equally. Mileage from the presenter’s address to the conference site will be paid according to the current government business mileage rate. With some exceptions, hotel lodging and meal expenses are not paid for or reimbursed by NPO.

*Please limit your presentation to one or two speakers only.

To be considered as a presenter for the conference, please complete the abstract submission form below. The abstract submission deadline is March 23, 2018.

The NPO Education Committee will select topics and speakers from the abstract submissions received and will notify presenters of their selections by April 15, 2018. Invited speakers will have until April 27, 2018 to accept the invitation to speak.

All accepted presenters will be sent a presenter invitation packet which includes:

  • educational planning table (outlines objectives & content)
  • guidelines for writing behavioral objectives
  • biographical and conflict of interest form
  • audio/visual equipment request form
  • W-9 form

Completed speaker packets will be due to NPO by June 2, 2018.

NPO is no longer accepting abstracts for sessions at the NPO Education Conference in October.  However, we are still accepting Poster Presentation submissions.
