Getting to Know Our NPO Members

Who are you?

  • Diane N. Solomon, PhD, PMHNP-BC, CNM

Where did you receive your education?

  • MSN, CNM, Yale University School of Nursing
  • PMCO (PMHNP), OHSU School of Nursing
  • PhD, OHSU School of Nursing

What type of NP are you and where and what do you practice?

  • Early on I practiced at OHSU as a CNM, but retrenched in the early 2000's to become a PMHNP. I am honored to have a private adult psychiatry practice in downtown Portland.

How long have you been a member of NPO, what roles have you had?

  • I’ve only been a member since 2016 (see below). I chair the Independent Practice and Business Owners committee, serve on the ONA Political Action Committee, and am a constant visitor (and member hopeful) on the ONA Cabinet for Health Policy. It’s all a privilege.

What is one thing you’d be willing to share that others may not know?

  • I’m passionate about NPs as major players in fixing healthcare in America. NPs deliver health care’s “Triple Aim”: better patient satisfaction, better outcomes, and decreased costs.

Why are you a NPO member?

  • I believe in the importance of a professional organization supporting the members of a professional community and it is important to function as a part of that community.

Why should others join NPO?

  • I had worked independently for so long I had no idea what NPO had done for me. When another NP told me in early 2016, I immediately joined, and have since felt like I’ve found my people! Who made it possible for me to enjoy practice autonomy, prescriptive authority, and payment parity—and all in the only state in the union that boasts all three? NPO!
