Oregon Nurse Practitioners Have Schedule II Drug Prescribing Authority

Some news stations erroneously reported that Nurse Practitioners will not be able to write prescriptions for Schedule II drugs with the new ruling about Hydrocodone Containing Products (HCPs). Local news channels picked up information from a St. Louis media outlet and perhaps others from around the country. Media outlets in states where NPs do not have Schedule II prescribing authority accurately reported accurately but unfortunately the information does not apply to Oregon. Oregon Nurse Practitioners have had Schedule II authority since the law was changed in 1999. KGW in Portland immediately corrected their broadcast upon contact by ONA staff and we appreciate their quick response.
